Flox is an Auckland based female stencil artist, clothing designer, mural contractor, business operator and mum. Flox’s art can be found in various galleries throughout New Zealand, and also works on a commission basis for both individual and corporate clients.
 

Flox Design Ltd was born in 2005.  The business incorporates both fashion and art whilst the name “Flox” has also become the painting alias of the business’ operator, Hayley King.

It had always been Flox’s dream to be a painter and to work for herself, so in 2005, started up a clothing line as a means of creating an income.  The intention was to have the two disciplines of fashion and painting working in sync with one another, so they could both work to promote each other and be branded under the one umbrella.

Flox’s hard working attitude and passion of art and fashion, has enabled her to become one of the leading female stencil artists in New Zealand, whilst growing her ever-expanding clothing business.  Flox partakes in numerous solo and group exhibitions, paints indoor and outdoor mural contracts (private and public), works within a painting collective, all the while working full time in her clothing business.

Within Flox’s art, lie strong ties to her adored Arts and Crafts Movement, Art Nouveau and her obsession with the decorative.  And while the work is deeply nestled in art history with allusions to past movements, connections to fashion, graphic design and Graff art keep the work comfortably seated in the contemporary pop-culture scene.

Flox’s clothing line too, draws references from these past and present influences.  Screen prints are a common aspect throughout her ranges, whilst there is always a desire to combine comfort with style, and street with sophistication.
